I selected all records and asked to delete them. The popup shows it wants to delete 96. But after 96 records deleted, the delete-counter just keeps on going.

BTW, the issue is an UI bug. You did have 12572 records in your workspace when you tried to delete them. UI was showing the 96 records count in the dialog title because if had prefetched only 96 records. Right behavior is that the prompt (on click of delete) should say that X records are about to be deleted and that X should be reflected in the title.
We have created a ticket and this will be addressed soon.
